At Persona, we're incredibly proud of our amazing team. We think they're smart, funny, and kind, and we're sure you'll think the same. That's why we started this blog series to help you get to know the people behind Persona.
Today, meet Jack, a member of our sales team who, despite a long career in sales, is consistently bested in negotiations by his two-year-old daughter. He shares what his days typically look like, his favorite Slack channel at Persona, and more in this Q&A:
What does your typical day look like at Persona?
At Persona, I introduce our existing customers to our new products or work with them to understand new cases for Persona. On any given day, I could be talking a customer through how to capture fraud through Persona, or I could be learning about how they are launching a new product line and figuring out how they may have a new use case for us. Thanks to the flexibility of our platform, it makes it fun for us to decide how we can best serve our customers and direct them to the product that best fulfills their needs.
Why did you choose Persona?
I knew people who had been at Persona for a while, so that was the first entry point for me. I decided to dig more into the space that the company operates in, and it became apparent that from a customer perspective, Persona has an important product that solves something they currently need and will more than likely continue to rely on. Moreover, Persona seemed like an intellectually-stimulating place. And during the interview process, everyone was humble but driven. There was no ego element — instead, there was an honest aptitude to simply perform at a high level.
Do you have a personal mantra or motto you try to follow? If so, what is it?
“Shoot your shot.” At Persona, we are given the freedom to try new things. Whether we are asking for product support or asking for new contract structures, there is always support to go above and beyond. If you can make an argument for why something should be done, the company will take the time to consider it.
Who is someone you look up to or admire at Persona and why?
During my first week, Rick (Persona's CEO) and I had a coffee chat. The conversation we had gave me the impression that we have the right-size perspective for what we are trying to do at Persona, but there is no expectation that this job is going to be our entire life. Persona is very mission-driven, and leadership has always been transparent about the long-term success of the company. It is a good balance of feeling comfortable enough to bring your whole personality to work but not feeling like you have to take yourself too seriously.
What advice would you give people who are currently job searching?
Try to take a long-term view of what you are doing, not just from a career progression perspective, but also where you want to be in your personal and professional life. Evaluate if these are people you want to be around — will they help you grow? Is this a job that will keep you interested? Are there things you want to grow in that will be offered by that company? Can you forge your path to do that?
What is your favorite Persona Slack channel and why?
My favorite is the #values channel (where Personerds give kudos to each other) because it shows how we all depend on one another — and that we would not be able to do our jobs without the help of others. This channel allows us to not only thank people for the work they are doing, but also share the impact of their efforts with other people at the company, too.
Stay tuned as we continue featuring more Personerds in this ongoing series!
